MERX is the official on-line tendering service of the
Canadian federal government. Any federal tender valued at CDN$10,000 or

Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade
provides a general Canadian trade overview and information on importing,
exporting issues and links to other government sites.
The Department of Public Works and Government Services (PWGS),
formerly known as Supply and Services Canada, is the official, formal
channel for procurement and the principal Government of Canada
contractor for goods and services. This department acts as the central
purchasing agent for all federal departments and agencies. The majority
of government procurement goes through PWGS. This department's site
provides information on doing business with the Government of Canada.
The National Research Council site is a good source of
research and government information on technologies, emerging science
applications and other technical data.
Treasury Board Secretariat (incl. CIO's Office) profiles
the infrastructure and hierarchy of the central policy and planning unit
for IT management in the Canadian federal system. It includes
information on the Chief Information Officer, the Information Highway
Advisory Council, speeches and policy issues, contacts and other
valuable information.
Revenue Canada is responsible for issues such as
taxation, trade policy administration, border services, NAFTA border
issues, duties and tariffs. Their site provides valuable information on
the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other trade-related tax
issues. Various publications and guides concerning aspects of importing
commercial goods into Canada are available at this site as well. Issues
such as customs, tariff classification and documentation requirements
