Purpose:

The purpose of this guide is to assist the user in identifying the proper "Schedule B " HS number for your export shipment.  This number at the 6-digit level is required to be placed on your Commercial Invoice and at the 10-digit level the Shippers Export Declaration.  It may also be required on the Bill of Lading and Shippers Letter of Instruction as it is often used to set freight rates.  Please note that misrepresentation of your product to obtain a lower freight rate or duty rate in a foreign country is fraudulent and may result in civil and criminal charges.

1.         Go to http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/schedules/b/index.html#search  

2.         Enter a one-word description – the search capability of this site is weak.  In this case I entered “shock”

3.         Scroll down the page to find the best match for your product.  In this case I selected:

 4.         Click on the Schedule B code link for a complete description.  The description is as follows:

8708801000         For tractors suitable for agricultural use.X

 5.         Note that the end of each line is the “unit of quantity”
